The Poetry Challenge via Prosody: Could You Or I Do That?

Sprinter to the Finish

While looking around on the Cloudy Day Art site, I came across a link to ProsodyEtc. Prosody is the home of “The Everyday Muse”, an experiment in poetry by Harry Lafnear. What is Harry’s experiment?

Harry is attempting to write a poem a day, for everyday this year. That’s quite a tall order. While I like to write, that’s quite a challenge, especially for me. I tend to want to write the “home run” every time. That is, when I write, I want to get it all out and be done with it. Sometimes, my pieces “write” themselves. I just kinda sit their and type as the thoughts come into my mind. On other days, the thoughts don’t come as quickly. I remember going through a drought of sorts when my friend Michelle died back in July. It seemed like everytime I sat down to write, I couldn’t find the words. Of course, I was grieving and was distracted with funeral preparations. Still, I’ve had other painful situations that led me to fly to find a pen to write out my emotions of the moment. However, the “muse” is back it seems and my mind is flooded with things about which to write these days. Every day, an idea suggests itself.

However, I don’t think I will be taking the challenge to write daily for a year. Even so, having been inspired by the idea, I’m going to try to write a poem a day for a week. I will post my pieces here and I will also try to record them for your listening pleasure as well. Mind you, I have a job, some duties at church, and laundry for which to care! I suppose I will start Friday, 10/13. That way, I can build some momentum into the weekend. I’ve got some topics and titles that have been swimming around in my head. We’ll see what comes of this!
