About My Blogroll and Your Comments

The Blogroll Basics

Why are those links there?

OK. Let me give a little explanation about my blogroll. It probably goes without saying, but I must say it any way: all of the blogs on my blogroll are not necessarily blogs whose content or worldview I endorse. So just because I have a link to it doesn’t mean I’m 100%, 10%, or even 1% supportive of any the information there. Even so, many are there because they do contain points of view totally different from mine. Some of them contain language I don’t use and advocate ideologies, philosophies, and lifestyles which I would categorically oppose. Flat out, there are many things out here that are going to offend. Heck, I’m sure that my blog is and will be offensive to someone else! With that said, I don’t think we can build relationships with others unless we’re willing to step outside of our own world and way of thinking. That doesn’t mean we have to compromise, but hopefully it means we can and are willing to converse. I do hope I can establish acquaintances, conversations, and even friendships with many who are not like me and who don’t think like me. It is my hope that in doing so that I can tangibly demonstrate the love of Christ, perhaps even earning the right to “give an account for the hope that is in” me, “yet with gentleness and reverence.”

At times, in a post, I may direct you to read a particular post on another blog. Again, this too is part of the learning process (perhaps more for me than for you). The best way to get to know someone is to let him (or her) speak for himself. Sometimes, I’ll shroud my comments about the external blog post so as to let you be surprised by what you read. In other cases, I’ll offer you a boatload of commentary, containing my reaction to the post, to prepare you for what you’ll read. Still, the point here is that I’ll place another voice and view in front of you for your consideration. It will be your choice to read or not.

Your Comments

What you need to know before you post a comment.

If we’re going to have dialogue, then I’ve got to leave the door open for your to say your thoughts. And know that the door is open. However, do know that your comments are subject to review and may be rejected upon my reading. I’ll let mostly anything through, but I do not and will not tolerate profanity or inflammatory commentary (e.g., racial slurs, religious slander, pornographic descriptions, etc.). The dictionaries are filled with many other words we can use to express ourselves without having to resort to such coarse language. So, if you use profanity, your comment will automatically be in my “red zone”. However, depending on what’s expressed in your comment, I may choose to edit out the profanity, leaving the remainder of your comment intact.

So much for free speech, eh? :-)

However, part of understanding one another and living with one another is respecting the differences we have. Certain things I just won’t tolerate. And if I find that there are frequently-repeated offenses, I’ll update this page with a listing of things not to include in your comments if you want them posted.

Just know that I reserve the right to blow away any comment. Even so, I want to know what you’re thinking.
