Christian Commentary: Don’t Pray to Make Me Wait!

Happy New Year to all! It is indeed a new year, and I’m hoping to be consistent with posting some thought-provoking missives here and there. So let’s start off the year causing some trouble.

The beginning of the New Year is a time when people look to start over. Of course, we’re all familiar with the resolutions for losing weight, quitting smoking, saving money, being a better student, and other well-meaning thoughts. I’ve decided to engage in a little experiment concerning prayer for the next 40 days. I consider it a jumpstart for my prayer life. Admittedly, the experiment is a little self-serving, in the sense that I have a lot of things requiring God’s leadership and wisdom. That being said, without necessarily announcing the extent of the experiment, I’ve asked a few friends and acquaintances as to something for which I could pray on their behalf. Such was not the case with one friend, and thus the trouble-starting begins. Let me explain.

A friend e-mailed me today to share her reaction to God revealing certain things to her. Her thoughts overflowed in several e-mails that it made it hard to reply to any one of them, due to the stream of thought that was rapidly spilling from her. Somewhere in the midst of her stream, I sent her an e-mail stating that I would pray that God would grant her patience to wait for His Will to pass and give her greater clarity concerning her circumstances and what He’s doing in the midst of such. My exact words were:

5 Critical Don’ts to Observe for Making Your Fitness Plan Work

It’s that time of the year again. You’ve seen the commercials on televisions. You’ve heard the spots on the radio. You’ve seen the well-sculpted, slender bodies. You’ve seen the rippling muscles. You’ve seen the tight butts and sexy legs. You’re tempted to respond, to buy into the hype. Yes, you’ve heard and seen all of the new member specials at your local gym or health club. You think to yourself, “This is the year that I will get into shape.” You tell yourself, “I’m going to walk everyday, diet, and workout six times a week.” Ah yes, the much ballyhooed New Year’s resolutions; these things and more you plan to do for 2008.

While it’s great to talk about all you will do, consider what you won’t do. That is, in the midst of your do’s, consider the “don’ts” as well. Your don’ts are just as crucial as your do’s to helping you improve your plan for health. With that in mind, consider the following five (5) don’ts for setting a solid foundation for your 2008 physical fitness. Continue reading

Christian Commentary: Think, My People, Think.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything to my blog. Hey, that’s life some times. As much as I love to write, I do have to attend to matters beyond the electronic ether. Hopefully, I’ll have the chance to catch up on some posts that are way overdue.

I am an e-mail pig. That is, I’ve got multiple e-mail accounts (at least five (5)) and I check them all everyday, several times a day. What’s worse is that I’m thinking about adding a few more accounts! To quote Michael Jackson from the Off the Wall album: “Don’t stop till you get enough!” (Hee-hee! Oooh! Can’t you see my glittering socks and one glove?) I’m sure I’m not the only one who has multiple accounts out there.

Lest I stray from the intent of this post, I received an e-mail from a very dear friend that I’ve known all of my life. As is typical in this age of e-mail, I, along with you, probably receive a bombardment of e-mails forwarded from friends.  I’m beginning to think that the “forward” button is one of the most evil contraptions devised. That button has become a license for friends to spam you legally. Continue reading

AWKA 2007 Update: Pink – 15, Sapphires – 0

Kickball at Home PlateWe had our fifth game today of the season. I think the ladies played a great defensive game today. You might say, “How can you say that when you lost 15 to 0?” I guess you had to be there. The ladies made some key catches that they’ve never made in previous times (at least to my recollection). I think they’re beginning to understand basic kickball defensive strategy (i.e., “contain the lead runner”). Some things will come with practice that goes beyond our team practices. Some balls just bounced the wrong way for us. Other balls bounced off hands that should have caught them. Even so, I think the ladies are overcoming Continue reading

Idol Talk: Why Melinda Couldn’t Win

I don’t expect anyone to believe me when I say this but I predicted that Melinda Doolittle was not going to make it to the finals of American Idol. The problem with my prediction was that I forgot to tell someone about it. Therefore, you have to take me at my word that I did actually make the prediction, even if it was to myself. Alright then. I know that my making that statement is irrelevant. So let’s talk about why she didn’t, and more importantly, couldn’t win.

NCAA Division I Football: I Want My D1Ps (Divsion I-A Playoffs)!

BCS on FoxWhy is NCAA Division I football cheating its fans and all of its schools by not having a playoff?

I am a sports junkie. Seriously. I listen to sports radio everyday for at least six hours (except on Sundays… I’m too busy watching sports on TV). It’s crazy, I know. I say that with the hopes of establishing some credibility in discussing this matter of playoffs. Believe me, I know the game of football. Mind you, I’m not much of a historian, and I’m not the stat geek I used to be. Still, I know the game, understanding the rules, formations, and strategy. Do not let my affinity for poetry cause you to discount my thinking about sports.

So as I’m coming home today, I’m listening to Fox Sports Radio and Ben Maller is handling the weekend third shift. Generally, I like listening to Ben. He can be a bit grating, but I think he comes off as being good-natured for the most part. As I listened, he was discussing the BCS. It is here that my rant begins.

First, a disclaimer. I understand the BCS is not a playoff system (that’s obvious). The BCS is designed primarily Continue reading
